Distance to the City Centre
The airport is located around 8 miles or 13 km south-west of Denpasar and 1.5 miles or 2.5 km south of Kuta. There is a regular bus service for Denpasar city centre and the major holiday resorts, comprising Kuta.
Transport from Bali Airport
From Bali Airport, you can take Jl. Raya Singapadu and Jl. Wr. Supratman to reach the major cities in Indonesia like Denpasar and Ubud. Arrive at the Ubung terminal, plan a bus trip from Java including a ferry that would cost you around Rp 175,000 to Rp 200,000. But, during festival time, the prices increase by Rp 50,000 - Rp 100,000 for one-way tickets.
Visa Requirements for Bali
The free visa is available for more than 140 countries but it is usable for only 30 days and not expandable. The validity for the visa on arrival is 30 days, costs around $35 US and can be extended once for 30 days. The tourist, social or cultural visa is valid for around 60 days, can be extended 3 times (30 days each) and should be issued by the embassy or consulate outside Indonesia.
Tips for your stay in Bali
- Money exchange in IDR should be done after you reach Indonesia as outside the country, the exchange rates are quite higher - Singapore is an exception as it has better exchange rates.
- It is highly recommended not to use backstreet kiosks or unofficial money exchange counters, but BMC authorized money changers.
- As soon as you arrive, get a small amount exchanged at the airport like $50-$100 for your transportation and other expenses - until you find an authorized money exchange outside where rates will be quite favourable.
- Do not forget to check the foreign charges checked with your bank beforehand as in Bali, you are charged with 2% to 3% when using your debit or credit card (except American Express).
- Keeping yourself hydrated, avoid consuming notorious local liquor arak and have street food with a degree of caution.
