Distance to the City Centre
La Aurora International Airport (GUA) is about 37 km away from Antigua in Guatemala City. Hop on a shuttle by paying just Q80 or hire a taxi in Q180 and get  to Antigua from the airport. Also, you can drive to Antigua by following RN-10 - the trip should last amidst 45 minutes and an hour. The most famous and chosen means of transportation between the cities in Guatemala. It might be a slow and uncomfortable way to travel, but it is definitely a true authentic experience.
 
Transport from Antigua
When it comes to transport in Antigua, trolley tours come first in the list. Centro’s trolley tours are available for Q75 per person. Tuk-tuks and taxis will take you anywhere within the Centro for Q10 or less. You need to agree on the price in advance and negotiate. Driving in Antigua is not a good choice due to the lack of parking and narrow streets but car renting is a wise option when wanting to travel to other towns. Rent a car from Hertz or Alamo in Antigua but there are more options available at the airport in Guatemala City.
 
Visa Requirements for Antigua
All travellers to Antigua must have an onward or return ticket. Citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada citizens do not require a visa to enter Antigua and Barbuda and must travel on a valid passport.
 
Tips for your stay in Antigua
  • In Antigua, Eastern Caribbean Dollars and US Dollars are accepted, but EC Dollars are the official currency. Try using US dollars as the rate of 1 USD is 2.67 ECD.
  • Be ready to hike a bit to a beach, off the roadway if you want a serene and less crowded stretch of sand.
  • Access of the beach might be free but the amenities will mostly cost you. Even a normal beach chair might cost you $20 USD at some places.
  • Carry your own snorkel, mask and fins as renting them might hamper your budget.
