Overview
Formerly known just as the gateway to the Turkish Riviera, Antalya today is one of the most popular holiday destinations in its own right. The biggest city on Turkey's western Mediterranean coastline, nestled right on the Gulf of Antalya, is both stylishly modern and classically beautiful. The old city wraps around a majestic Roman-era harbour with clifftop sights of hazy blue mountain silhouettes that are worth watching. At its core is the beautifully-preserved old-city district of Kaleiçi offering atmospheric accommodation in the finely restored Ottoman houses on its winding lanes. On the outskirts of the central city are the two famous beaches where you can also find one of the finest museums of Turkey.
With its surrounding forests and mountains peppered with ancient Greek and Roman ruins, enchanting waterfalls and stunning hiking routes, Antalya is both an adventurer’s dream and an urban playground. Home to a romantic old quarter full of great food, music and boutique hotels - alongside the most iconic beachfront of the country - the city is a Mediterranean must-see for any traveller coming to Turkey.

Climate
The city has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and wet humid winters. The winters are like spring, and the spring resembles summer. In a year, Antalya has 300 days of scorching sunshine and the annual average seawater temperature is around 22.5 degrees.

Tips for your stay in Antalya
  • If you are a beach lover and want to feel that cool breeze, book your low-cost flights to Antalya from cheapflighticket.co.uk in the months from April to October - clear sunny weather is expected during this time of the year.
  • Do not take photos of women draped in black shawls as it is forbidden. Before clicking a photograph of a man or local street people, make sure you ask them.
  • Entering mosques and houses should only be done after removing your shoes. Be quiet in mosques.
  • Check on your outfit/attire when stepping in a mosque - revealing, bright clothes can make you reject from entering many places of interest as well.
  • Tipping 5-10% of the total bill in bars and restaurants is advisable.
  • In retail stores and local markets, bargaining is recommended; asking for discounts in supermarkets is not appropriate though.
  • Drinking tap water can affect your health and make you sick; go for bottled water sold in shops.
