Overview
The capital of Iran, Tehran is located in the north of the country and is one of the top holiday destinations among the avid travellers and even new tourists. Its central Golestan Palace complex, with marble throne and ornate rooms, used to be the seat of power of the Qajar dynasty. The National Museum of Iran has artefacts dating back to Paleolithic times whereas if we talk about the National Jewellery Museum, it has a vast selection of the Qajar monarchs’ jewels.
East of the city is the Reza Abbasi Museum showcasing Persian art over many centuries. West of the centre, the dramatic Azadi Tower sits atop the Azadi Museum, which displays objects representing the country’s history. Expansive Laleh Park houses the striking Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art and the Carpet Museum of Iran.

Tehran Attractions and Activities
1. Go Gallery-Hopping
Tehran has a finest art scene; each Friday afternoon all galleries within the city are opened for exhibitions of well-renowned and up-and-coming young artists. Once you see the catwalk-like style of fashionable Tehranis (who come to be seen and see the art in galleries) and the contemporary art, your idea of modern Iran will surely change.

2. Conquer Valiasr Street
At nearly 12 miles (19 kilometres) long, Valiasr is the longest street in the Middle East, running from north to south, and dividing Tehran into east and west. Not feeling up to the walk? Consider taking the bus for all of the sights, but none of the exertion.

3. Play Dress Up
Many of Iran’s historical sites offer the opportunity to play dress up in Qajar-era clothes, but why not do it against the backdrop of a palace from the same period? Surely you will be doing some sightseeing at Golestan Palace, so why not toss on something royal from there, feel like a noble and pose alongside ruby pomegranates, silver antiques and vibrantly-coloured mosaics.

4. Be Transported to Old Tehran
Once known as the “Champs-Élysées of Tehran”, Lalezar Street is a far cry from its former days as a thriving hub of cafés, cinemas, and theatres. You may get lost in your imagination as you reconstruct broken windows and the happenings behind them. Amid the long-lived jewels and the city is the home of reputable writer Sadegh Hedayat named Grand Hotel, and Ettehadieh House

5. Get an Adrenaline Rush at Tochal
Situated in the north of Tehran, Tochal has a lot to offer for everyone. For a more rejuvenating time, catch the capital’s breathtaking skyline view or strike out on an early-Friday-morning hike to station 1 or 2 - enjoy a healthy breakfast while admiring the view at this place.
