Overview
Located in the Aegean Sea close to the Turkish mainland, Kos Island is the third-biggest Dodecanese island. Green and fertile, it nestles amidst Nisyros and Kalymnos.
Kos Town is the capital of the island, as well as an ancient port, featuring plenty of restaurants and bars. The town is dotted with amazing historic sites reflecting on the island’s past inhabitants - Ottomans, Romans, Egyptians, Venetians and the Knights of St. John. There are ruins of the Roman amphitheatre and baths, and an extnesive 15th-century castle built by the Knights of St. John still stands.
Kefalos Village is peaceful than other parts of Kos. Perched on a hillside, the village has a beautiful, long beach and serves up a rejuvenating experience to travellers. Despite its popularity, the village is traditionally Greek with narrow alleys and whitewashed houses.

From May to October in Kos, tourists can experience the warm, sunny weather, while rain and lower temperatures welcome travellers from November till March/April. The peak season where crowds, especially beach lovers, gather and enjoy is from July till August. These months are generally the hottest, most humid and the busiest.

1. Visit Asklepeion
Located just 4 km to the south-east side of Kos town, Asklepeion is reputably the most visited tourist destination in Kos. This archaeological site was built in honour of Hippocrates, an ancient Greek physician who cured people and taught the art of healing to his students. Asklepeion is located just a few meters from natural springs and has the remains of the temples of Asclepius and Apollo that was initially destroyed by an earthquake.
 
2. Hippocrates Tree
In the centre of Kos town and just outside the Castle of Knights, Hippocrates tree is one that you don’t want to miss on your visit to this beautiful Island. Hippocrates that was considered the father of medicine used to teach his students under this plane tree.
 
3. Explore the Castle of Knights
This piece of architecture was built by the Knights in an attempt to protect the island from the Ottomans. In 1945 this piece of construction was damaged by an earthquake. However, not everything was damaged. In your visit to Kos town, spare some time and tour this place and see the remains of this castle.
 
4. Roman Odeon
Kos’ famous theatre, the Roman Odeon, dates back to the 2nd or 3rd century. The once grandiose theatre served as a venue for concerts, music competitions, and theatre performances and could seat up to 750 people.

Distance to the City Centre
The Kos Island international airport is a public airport which is located around 22 km southwest of Kos Town. It serves to the Island of Kos which is in Greece. Situated in close proximity to the Andimachia village, the airport is the second nearest airport to Bodrum. The Milas Bodrum airport is the nearest airport to Bodrum.
 
Transport from Kos
