Distance to the City Centre
Cheap Flights to Bulawayo arrive at its international airport, Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport which is situated about 10 km north of the city. Reaching the city from the airport is hassle-free when you use taxis, rental cars and airport shuttle buses. No train or bus service is available from the airport to reach the city.
 
Transport from Bulawayo
Once in the city, public transport options are somehow limited. The train and taxis are the most convenient ways to get around. It is not recommended to explore the city centre on foot or bicycle, especially at night because of safety issues.
 
Visa Requirements for Bulawayo
There are three categories of nationalities, each of which has different visa requirements.
Category A: This category comprises citizens of SADC countries as well as Hong Kong and Singapore. These nationalities do not require a visa to enter Zimbabwe for a vacation.
Category B: The residents of the countries lying in this category need not apply for a visa in advance. Note that they are eligible for Zimbabwe on arrival visa. Countries in this category include the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland and the USA.
Category C: Nigeria, India and Mexico residents come in this category. They are required to need to apply for a Zimbabwe visa before travelling to Zimbabwe.
 
Tips for your stay in Bulawayo
  • Avoid the bus station. It is full of people, & can feel very overwhelming & unsafe.
  • Dress poorly & wear your money underneath your clothes.
  • Be sure to hit a local fabric store. You can get a "chitenge" or wrap skirt for quite cheap.
  • The local bakery or bread stores are phenomenal! You can get large pastries for under $1.00 (US).
  • If you need to take a taxi, barter & barter. If you are white, expect to pay more unless you have a local w/ you.
