Cheap Flights to amsterdam

Overview
There are so many great reasons to visit Amsterdam and it is a city with something for everyone. Comparatively, the capital of the Netherlands might be compact from other major European cities, but it packs a lot into a relatively small space. The Old Centre and the Canal Ring are a must for history lovers, as are the world-class museums and galleries. All music aficionados flock to the city for its exciting, hip clubs and vibrant nightlife while its extraordinary coffee shop culture is famed all over the world.
If cafés, coffee shops, and bars are of limited appeal, the city also boasts spacious parks, like Vondelpark in the centre of the city, and Ooosterpark close to the Eastern Docklands. Amsterdam is famous among fashion freaks, shopaholics as well as with travellers who come for historic attractions like the scenic canals and Anne Frank's House.

Climate
The weather of Amsterdam varies based on the time of year. Spring brings you blooming tulips and vast fields of beautiful flowers, but rain showers are quite possible, especially in March. The summer months see extreme heat and humidity, but it’s also when Amsterdam is packed with tourists and there’s always something happening in the city or along one of the famous canals. The weather turns cold in the winter and fairly rainy, but this is the best time to book cheap flights to Amsterdam.

Best Time To Visit
Amsterdam can be super busy during the summers i.e. from May to September, but it's the ideal time for outdoor events in the parks or cycling along the canals. You can expect long queues for prime attractions such as the Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House, but there are often fast track deals available in hotels and tourist information centres or when you buy tickets online. April to May and September to October are the times when explorers and backpackers visit the city - less crowd can be seen. Low priced flight tickets from November to February are also responsible for making Amsterdam a wonderful choice for New Year festivities or Christmas shopping tours.

Amsterdam Attractions and Activities
1. Old Centre
The city Centre is spectacular and Amsterdam's famous canals often earn the city the nickname the "Venice of the North". The 17th century Canal Ring district is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the waterways shed the Old Centre. You'll also encounter the popular Red Light District here.

2. Rijksmuseum
It's impossible to do justice to the enormous Rijksmuseum in one visit. The museum is home to crucial works of art from the Dutch "Golden Age" comprising Vermeer's "Night Watch" and "Milkmaid" by Rembrandt as well as an extensive collection of Asian art.

3. Nightlife
The city's most famous music venues like Paradiso and Melkweg play host to new talent and top international acts. Tourists flock to the happening clubs that line Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein, whereas, locals consider a few hidden gems such as Club Up or Claire.

4. Diamonds
The city has been a prominent international diamond Centre since the 16th century. If you are a lover of jewellery, admire the dazzling stones in free guided tours of leading diamond houses like Coster Diamonds or Gassan Diamonds.

5. Anne Frank House
The home of Anne Frank during World War II and where she hid with her family and neighbours from the Nazis in a secret annex behind a bookcase. The Prinsengracht house is one of city's three most visited museums along with the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum.

Transport from Amsterdam
The city has an excellent public transport system that includes a small but effective metro system, buses, and trams. For travelling, passengers need a contactless card known as an OV-chipkaart. You can get respective card from GVB vending machines from Centraal Station or mostly all metro stations.

Visa Requirements for Amsterdam
Any UK citizen who holds either a full UK passport or a BOTC, BOC, BPP or BS passport can travel to the Netherlands and the Dutch Caribbean visa-free. Although, many non-EU nationals who live in the United Kingdom are still advised to get a Schengen visa to travel to the Netherlands.

Tips for your stay in Amsterdam
  • Avoid walking on the sidewalk and do not stand or walk in the bike lane.
  • Always carry your passport (identification proof) with you (if you are not an EU) as you can be fined for not keeping it.
  • Due to cobblestones in a few places, consider wearing comfortable shoes and avoiding heels.
  • Be aware of the pathetic customer service in mid-range of cheaper cafés. They often leave customers alone for long periods without even keeping a check on them.
  • Opt for 9 Straatjes for interesting and unique souvenirs instead of touristic areas.
  • Reserve your hotel/resort way before your departure date, especially in peak hours.
